Coronavirus Update – March 5, 2020

Shalom Everyone,

At Congregation Torat El, the safety and well-being of our members, guests, Religious School families, Pre-School families and staff is our top priority.

Mindful of concerns over the coronavirus as well as other seasonal colds and flus, we want to remind everyone to be vigilant about washing hands. When greeting each other, perhaps substitute a friendly wave or fist bump in place of the traditional handshake or kiss. We recommend we all err on the side of caution in washing our hands a few more times during the day than usual.

Helpful suggestions from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) would be:

  • If you or your child feel sick or are sick, stay home from work, school and synagogue, and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If a tissue is not available, cough into your sleeve.
  • Always wash your hands after you cough or sneeze.
  • Throw tissues in the trash after you use them.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick or who appear to be sick.
  • Traveling for spring break? Please familiarize yourself with information about the areas where infection rates are high and the chance for the disease is heightened.
  • If engaged or in close contact with someone who was recently overseas, be additionally responsible and vigilant for the possibilities of infection.

New Jersey has established a special Q&A Coronavirus hotline to address any of your concerns at 1-800-222-1222.

Please be assured we will continue to monitor the situation, regularly communicate and will implement additional measures if the need arises.

We write to you only out of abundance of caution and not due to any immediate threat.

Be well, stay healthy, and have a great Shabbat and Happy Purim!
