During this difficult time of social distancing and isolation, Congregation Torat El continues to be here for you. Although we are practicing physical distancing, this doesn’t mean we need to distance ourselves emotionally and spiritually.

We are offering the following ways to connect online in virtual environments. Please note that all services and programs require the password that was mailed to you on March 29. If you need to obtain it again, please email Pam.

Unorthodox – Based on the popular Netflix Mini-Series Zoom Mtg ID 813 1166 1541

Schneur Zalman Newfield, an Assistance Professor of Sociology at Borough of Manhattan Community College (CUNY), will discuss the hit Netflix series, Unorthodox. Newfield is uniquely qualified to discuss the Unorthodox series. As a young adult, he left his ultra-Orthodox community and set out to create a new life for himself. For his just-released book, Degrees of Separation: Identity Formation While Leaving Ultra-Orthodox Judaism, Newfield interviewed former members of the Lubavitch and Satmar ultra-Orthodox communities about their experiences leaving those sects and beginning new lives. The book is currently available for download on Amazon Kindle and in paperback from Temple University Press.

The Howell Blood Donor Center is open and in urgent need of blood donations. If you are well and would like to donate, please call 1-899-933-5266 or visit Blood Bank Appointments

 

We have a team of volunteers ready to help anyone in our temple family who is in need of assistance with food or pharmacy runs. Please contact Pam if you or someone you know might need our help.

 

Kosher meals on wheels has an influx of holocaust survivors in our area who need meals delivered. Two weeks worth of meals will be delivered. Volunteers are desperately needed. No one would be going into any homes. Gloves will be provided but they ask that you provide your own mask to deliver the food. Please contact Joanne Glassoff if you are able to help.
